A bear appears on the Berlin coat of arms and this might be the reason this animal shape was selected for the art display. Approximately 350 life-size bears were painted and displayed in the streets of Berlin in 2001. Later they were sold at auction to business interests and a few can now be viewed outside major offices around Berlin. The idea of the bears was Klaus and Eva Herlitz along with sculptor Roman Strobl. The bears statues come in four designs, on all four paws, on two legs, standing on its head or sitting.
